The leader of the Jusos, the youth wing of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Philipp Türmer, has launched a scathing critique of CDU leader Friedrich Merz, accusing him of presiding over a chaotic and divisive political climate. In an interview with the “Rheinische Post” Türmer characterized Merz’s leadership style as “quite muddled” branding him a “chaos chancellor” who lacks control even over his own parliamentary group.
Türmer’s criticism extends beyond mere stylistic complaints. He alleges that Merz’s rhetorical outbursts are actively contributing to a deepening societal rift, a stark contrast to the unifying role expected of a national leader. “He urgently needs to stop that” Türmer stated, suggesting a need for direct intervention, even from within the SPD, should Merz fail to self-correct.
Beyond the immediate condemnation of Merz’s leadership, Türmer issued a stark warning to the broader conservative bloc. He cautioned against any flirtation with unstable coalition scenarios, particularly those involving a minority government or a potential alliance with the far-right AfD. “Anyone in the Union who is fantasizing about a minority government or black-blue constellations, is playing with fire” he asserted.
