During the investigation into a group of suspected Hamas weapons suppliers, another arrest was made. According to the “Spiegel”, citing police sources, officers detained 36‑year‑old Mohammad S. at Berlin’s airport around 11 p.m. on Friday. S., who was born in Lebanon, had flown from Beirut to Berlin and was on the Federal Criminal Police Office’s wanted list. Prosecutors allege that he is a Hamas member and part of a network of overseas operatives that procure guns and ammunition for attacks on Israeli and Jewish targets in Europe. Investigators say he obtained roughly 300 live rounds for the group.
The operation has already led to several arrests. In October, three suspected Hamas members were taken into custody during a weapons transfer in Berlin. Additional suspected smugglers were apprehended by investigators in London and upon entry from the Czech Republic.
Mohammad S. is now set to be transported from Berlin to Karlsruhe and presented before a federal district judge. His defense team was initially unreachable for comment.
