61% of Germans See Trump as a Threat, Majority Urges Harder Government Policy

A recent survey by the research institute Insa, conducted for the newspaper “Bild am Sonntag”, shows that most Germans are wary of U.S. President Donald Trump and his policies. The study found that 61 percent of respondents view Trump as a threat, while only 24 percent see him as an ally.

This sceptical attitude also translates into a clear preference for a tougher stance by the German government toward Trump. Fifty‑two percent of the participants called for a stronger approach, whereas 31 percent believed that more cooperation would be the right course.

The poll surveyed 1,004 people during the period from January 22 to January 23, 2026.
