After the preliminary closing of the talks involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, the Green Party has called for increased European engagement to end the war in Ukraine.
Agnieszka Brugger, the deputy parliamentary group leader of the Greens, told the “Rheinische Post”: “The German government and our European partners must finally put more pressure on Putin, provide greater support for Ukraine, and deliver hard security guarantees”.
Brugger criticized Germany and other European states for what she describes as persistent hesitation. “They are still far too reluctant across all sectors” she said. “That means they don’t take themselves seriously on the international stage, and they fail to adequately protect their own security. Friedrich Merz, especially with the Taurus missile issue, increasingly reminds one of Olaf Scholz”.
Regarding the talks in Abu Dhabi, Brugger was cautious. “In substance, no progress has been made with these discussions at this point” she said. Looking at reality, she added, “Russian air attacks are becoming even more brutal than before, aimed at spreading coldness and terror relentlessly”. She concluded that “no one who truly wants to negotiate is acting in this manner”.
