In the 19th weekend of the Bundesliga, SC Freiburg secured a 2-1 victory over 1. FC Köln.
Köln took the early lead when Freiburg’s Max Rosenfelder misdirected a pass that slipped into his own net in the 10th minute. Freiburg answered almost immediately, with Derry Scherhant equalising a minute later. The home side began to dominate the possession, and just before the break they cemented the advantage: Igor Matanovic’s goal in the 44th minute put Freiburg ahead.
During the second half, Köln displayed more attacking intent, reaching several close opportunities but failing to convert. Freiburg remained patient, kept the defence solid, and repeatedly pushed for small incisive chances. A promising chance materialised around the middle of the second period when Matanovic’s cross‑shoot was weakly executed; it was stopped by Köln goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe in the 66th minute.
In the closing stages both managers switched to a more offensive approach. Köln intensified the pressure and earned a few half‑chances, yet nothing decisive emerged. Freiburg held onto the slim lead, limiting Köln’s options and preserving the advantage until the final whistle.
With the win Freiburg moves up to seventh place in the standings, while Köln stays on tenth.
