German Women’s Union Proposes Altruistic Egg Donation Law, Banning Commercial Trade

At the upcoming CDU party conference in February, the CDU Women’s Union plans to push for a paradigm shift in reproductive medicine. The party’s women’s organization is calling for egg donation to be legalised in Germany, but only within a tightly framed framework. According to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, the Union is especially keen to ensure that no commercial trade in eggs is allowed and that donations remain altruistic-free from any financial incentive.

Nina Warken, chair of the Women’s Union and the country’s Health Minister, told the newspaper that the proposal is aimed at helping women who are medically unable to conceive. She stressed that clear, defined conditions must be in place to govern the practice.
