Kassem Taher Saleh, the Greens’ parliamentary spokesperson on construction policy, is pressing the federal government to present the key points for a reform of the Building Energy Act without delay.
“That nine months after announcing a reform there are still no key points in place is politically irresponsible and creates massive uncertainty” Saleh told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.
He warned that households and businesses have no clear idea of what to expect. “The industry has already adapted to the shift towards renewable heat and is noticeably suffering under this political back‑and‑forth. This continued uncertainty threatens jobs and weakens a future market that Germany urgently needs to strengthen” the MP added. “Clearly the coalition is struggling to find a common line, even though the pressure to act is great”. Saleh called for a rapid agreement that provides planning certainty.
The heating‑policy spokesperson for the Left faction, Violetta Bock, also voiced criticism. “The CDU remains trapped in announcement mode and fails to recognise that erasing the measure contradicts reality. Instead of devising tricks to avoid ecological compliance, they should step up socially” she said to RND. “We demand that the federal government expand socially tiered subsidy programmes and, above all, create a legally secure protection framework for tenants against exploding heating costs” Bock added.
