The United States and Russia have agreed to restart a high‑level military dialogue that had been suspended for more than four years. The U.S. European Command announced the decision on Thursday after negotiations involving Russian, Ukrainian and U.S. officials in Abu Dhabi. Those lines of communication were cut off in the autumn of 2021, just before the war in Ukraine began.
The dialogue will be revived following meetings in Abu Dhabi between U.S. European Command Commander General Alexey G. Grynkevich and senior representatives of the Russian and Ukrainian militaries. The parties described the renewed contact as a key element for global stability and peace-a goal that can be achieved only through strength-and as a way to increase transparency and de‑escalate tensions.
General Grynkevich, who also serves as NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, has the authority to conduct this military dialogue with Russian General Staff chief General Valery Gerasimov, with the aim of preventing miscalculations and unintended escalations.
