The State Commission for Pension Security (ASK), tasked by the federal government with reforming statutory pensions, is set to discuss extending the retirement age to 70 years. According to Bild’s Monday edition, which refers to discussions among commission circles, the 13‑member expert group will meet on February 23 in Berlin to explore how such an extension could be implemented. Key points on the agenda include determining the reduction rates for early retirement before turning 70.
At the same time, the commission will examine ways to make continued employment beyond the age of 70 more attractive. Sources suggest that a “very generous” financial reward for opting for a later retirement is currently under consideration.
The commission may issue a recommendation by spring. Bild further reports that the panel will also debate whether civil servants and politicians should be required to contribute to the statutory pension scheme in the future.
