Members of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Saxony‑Anhalt are apparently urging their state board to call an extraordinary membership congress no later than the end of March 2026. The call comes from a formal proposal reported by RTL and ntv. At the congress the rank‑and‑file should openly discuss the current allegations and decide on rules for parliamentary group and office positions.
The proposal also calls for the creation of a conduct commission at the same meeting. According to the signatories, only a full membership congress can clarify responsibility, protect top candidate Ulrich Siegmund and restore the party’s credibility before the 2026 election. They claim the state board is currently unable to resolve the crisis alone, adding that anyone who blocks the congress shares responsibility for a possible electoral loss in 2026.
Around 150 AfD members from the state association have reportedly signed the request, as the broadcasters cite regional AfD chapters. However, the exact number of signatories is irrelevant for convening a congress. At least four district associations must approve the request for the state board to be obliged to hold the meeting. Whether this will happen remains unclear at present.
