After recent attacks by the U.S. immigration enforcement agency ICE and announcements of tougher entry requirements, the German travel industry is recording a noticeable drop in demand for trips to the United States. “At the moment we are seeing double‑digit declines in pre‑bookings for U.S. trips” said Albin Loidl, president of the German Travel Association (DRV), in an interview with “Welt am Sonntag”.
Loidl points to growing uncertainty over how U.S. entry conditions will evolve. He also cites worries about rising inflation in the United States. “The current weakness in demand is not only tied to the political and social situation over there but also to the question of whether I can even afford a vacation there” he added.
The German Foreign Office has advised caution near protests following deadly shootings by ICE security forces, and it has already updated its travel warnings in light of the tightened entry controls.
