Israel claims it carried out a preventive military strike on Iran. Iranian state media reported that explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday. In response, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) issued a nationwide alert, urging all citizens to stay close to protective shelters to prepare for the possibility of rocket attacks on Israel.
A security official confirmed that the United States was involved in the operation. Reports say the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was not in Tehran at the time but was moved to a secure location. The attacks were reportedly aimed at the intelligence branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and at key downtown areas in Tehran.
Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the strike was a “preventive blow” designed to eliminate threats to the state of Israel. He called for an immediate nationwide emergency. Sirens blared across the country and the IDF’s home-front command warned civilians against unnecessary travel and urged them to remain near shelters. So far there have been no reports of rockets fired toward Israel.
