In the current crisis involving the Strait of Hormuz, the United Arab Emirates is advocating for a pragmatic approach toward Iran. Lana Nusseibeh, the Minister of State in the UAE Foreign Ministry, told The World that the UAE is open to diplomatic engagement and praised Qatar for its mediating work. She stressed that a “pragmatic approach with Iran must be found.”
However, Nusseibeh also clarified that the UAE intends to implement US sanctions policy “in full and with the utmost severity.” She noted that they are aware of “what has happened in the past four months of the war” and are prepared for any possible scenario.
On a separate note, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is scheduled to visit Germany on Thursday for the first state visit by an Emirati head of state to the Federal Republic. Both countries aim to establish a strategic partnership.
Regarding the Hormuz crisis, Nusseibeh stated that the UAE will also support Germany’s efforts to resolve the blockage, which is straining global energy markets. She highlighted that ‘respect for international law’ and the ‘interest in supply security through freedom of navigation’ connect Germany and the Emirates.
