CDU/CSU Regains Lead Over AfD in Insa “Sunday Trend” Poll – 26% to 25% for the First Time Since September

The Union has positioned itself ahead of the AfD again in Insa’s newly released “Sunday Trend”, the weekly opinion‑poll series produced for “Bild am Sonntag”. It is the first time since September that the Union leads.

In the latest survey the CDU/CSU received 26 percent of the vote, a gain of one point. The AfD remained at 25 percent. The Left dropped by a point to 10 percent. The Social Democratic Party stayed unchanged at 16 percent, the Greens at 11 percent, BSW at 3 percent and the Free Democratic Party at 3 percent. Parties outside this group together accounted for 6 percent.

According to Insa’s chief Hermann Binkert, more than 44 percent of the vote is required for a parliamentary majority. Currently, a coalition of the Union and SPD would command 42 percent, while SPD, Greens and Left would reach 37 percent. A Union‑AfD partnership would exceed the majority threshold with 51 percent, but is considered politically off‑limits.

The poll was conducted with 1,203 people between 23 February and 27 February 2026.
