AfD Insists on Forming Government in Saxony-Anhalt, Defying Political Obstacles

The AfD in Saxony-Anhalt remains unwavering in its pursuit of government power. AfD candidate Ulrich Siegmund stated that he sees no reason to change strategy following the decision made by the CDU parliamentary faction regarding the Minister-President election. This decision stipulated that the plenary hall would be closed for the first and second rounds, only opening for voting during the third round.

Speaking to the news channel “Welt,” Siegmund remarked that he does not believe the situation in December will unfold the way some political opponents might wish. He stressed that a lot will happen in the next two months and confirmed that the party is sticking firmly to the agreed-upon schedule. He reiterated that the election will take place in December, exactly as has been clearly communicated, and expressed optimism about the prospect of the first AfD-led administration.

Siegmund also downplayed any potential disagreements within the AfD concerning the election procedure. He asserted that democracy is fundamental to the party’s values. While acknowledging that members may critique processes, he stated that internal discussion and the exchange of the best arguments were encouraged, a behavior that makes him proud of the AfD. “In December we will elect, and then we will govern,” Siegmund declared. When asked if he would continue to insist on having only one election round, he replied, “We only need one, and for that reason, we are sticking exactly to that principle.”
