German Minister Keeps Heat Pump Subsidies Open Beyond 2029, Emphasizes Continued Climate‑Neutral Support

German Minister for Economy and Climate Protection Katherina Reiche (CDU) made clear that state subsidies for heat‑pump systems will not be discontinued after 2029. She explained that the 2029 deadline only marks the end of the current financial framework, not the cessation of funding. Speaking to newspapers of the Funke Media Group about the key points of the new heating law, she highlighted that heat pumps are already the dominant choice for new construction and will remain the preferred option in many existing buildings, although they are not the sole solution.

Reiche emphasized that the government does not dictate what is “good” or “bad” for households, stating that this responsibility rests with the citizens. She reiterated that all climate‑neutral heating systems will continue to receive strong support, a development she said will encourage further investment and drive the demand for heat pumps upward.

Regarding legal concerns about the new heating law, the minister dismissed them, asserting that the Building Modernisation Act will be drafted in a legally sound way.
