Economy Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) made it clear that a state subsidy for heat pumps will not automatically disappear after 2029. “The current financial framework ends in 2029 – that does not equate to a termination of the subsidy” she told the Sunday newspapers of the Funke‑Media Group, referring to the upcoming heating law.
Reiche noted that heat pumps are already the dominant solution for new builds. They will also be the preferred choice in many existing properties, although she stressed that they are not the sole option. “It is not the role of the government to dictate what is good or bad; that responsibility lies with the citizens themselves” she said.
The minister affirmed that all climate‑neutral heating systems will continue to receive strong support. “We have made it clear that we will keep promoting these systems, which is good news for those planning investments. Accordingly, the sales of heat pumps will keep rising” she added.
She dismissed legal concerns about the new heating law, stating that the Building Modernisation Act will be “legally soundly drafted”.
