In response to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Lebanon‑based Hezbollah militia launched a rocket attack on Israel during the night that turned into Monday. The group said the strikes were retaliation for Khamenei’s killing and for “repeated Israeli aggressions”. No casualties or damage were reported in Israel.
Israel’s armed forces reacted swiftly to the first Hezbollah rocket strike since November 2024. They bombarded Hezbollah positions throughout Lebanon and issued an advisory to residents in at least 50 towns, urging them to move at least one kilometre away from potential targets.
Meanwhile, Iran has continued its reprisal strikes across the region. In the same night, an unmanned Iranian drone hit a British military base in Cyprus. Earlier, Britain, Germany, and France had warned that they would not rule out the use of “military defensive measures” against Iran.
