German Green Party politician Ricarda Lang sharply criticized Economy Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) for her stance on energy supply during the Iran crisis. Speaking to the news channel “Welt TV”, Lang said Reiche prioritises the profits of the gas lobby over affordable energy prices for consumers. “At this time” Lang added, “Katherina Reiche, as economy minister, is still pushing us toward greater dependence on fossil fuels. Whoever imports gas or oil from other countries is not importing energy but, ultimately, uncertainty”. Lang called on the federal government to consider how to protect citizens from price shocks. She stressed that this goal has a dual purpose: first, to find immediate ways to support people-and she hopes the government will finally present a concrete plan-and second, to prevent future price shocks. “That won’t happen by continuing to rely on fossil fuels” she warned.
