Ex-General Urges Netanyahu’s Removal Amid Warnings of Escalating Iran Conflict

Former Israeli Major General Israel Ziv has issued a warning regarding a potential new attack on Iran, simultaneously demanding the removal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The former head of the Israeli army told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” in Tel Aviv that he does not believe that any new action will ultimately change the situation. While Ziv had previously argued that the original attack on Iran was necessary due to its nuclear program, he deemed the killing of revolutionary leader Ali Khamenei a “terrible mistake” that only served to radicalize the Revolutionary Guard.

Amid reports from the “New York Times” suggesting that the US and Israel are developing plans for fresh strikes-including a debated three-day massive bombardment intended to force Tehran into concessions-Ziv expressed strong skepticism about any such effort achieving success. He dismissed the prospect of diplomatic resolution, stating that the notion of Iran suddenly shifting tactics to seek peace with Trump and Israel after a brief military campaign was “a fairy tale.”

With parliamentary elections looming on October 27th, Ziv declared that Netanyahu must be replaced. He argued that anyone who prioritizes the state’s interests above their own would be better than the current Prime Minister. Ziv accused the leader of extending the war in Gaza for domestic political reasons, primarily to boost his image as a strong security figure.

Netanyahu has leveraged his campaign, asserting that he and his Likud party are the sole guarantors of Israel’s security. Ziv countered this by warning that Netanyahu is, in fact, the only person who can guarantee a continued decline in Israel’s security situation. Furthermore, Ziv lamented what he described as Israel’s unprecedented international isolation, noting that the country currently carries the image of the “villain” or “madman” in the region. He concluded that Netanyahu is sacrificing the nation’s international relationships for his own domestic political gain.
