NRW Security Service Designates AfD’s “Generation Deutschland” Youth Wing as a Suspected Right‑Extremist Group.

The North Rhine-Westphalia Office for the Protection of the Constitution has classified the new AfD youth wing, Generation Deutschland Nordrhein-Westfalen (GD NRW), as a suspected far‑right extremist group.
On Friday the state interior ministry announced that there are significant indications that GD NRW is essentially a continuation of the dissolved Junge Alternative NRW (JA NRW), which had already been monitored as a case of concern.

Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) said the new group follows the agenda of its predecessor and maintains a high level of personnel continuity in leadership positions. “Those who believe that the name change with Generation Deutschland signifies a real shift are mistaken. At heart it is the old organization with a new name” he explained. The security agency confirmed that the organizational chain has indeed been carried forward.

Under state law, this assessment obliges authorities to observe the group. Consequently, the AfD state association in North Rhine‑Westphalia will now monitor both the former Flügel structure and the Generation Deutschland NRW as cases of concern.
