The SPD warns that it will delay any measures adopted in the European Parliament in collaboration with right‑wing factions, when those measures are voted on in the Bundestag.
“All parties must understand that the SPD will take every opportunity to postpone and dilute decisions made at the EU level with the majority of right‑wing extremist groups, even if there is an overarching duty to implement them” said the SPD’s economic policy spokesperson, Sebastian Roloff, to “Focus”. “The Union should therefore think carefully about whether it wants to dismantle the shield that protects it from such pyrrhic victories”.
His colleague, migration policy specialist Hakan Demir, called on the Christian Democrats in Brussels to change course. “The guiding principle should be: if you can only realize an idea with the assistance of right‑wing extremists, then it is probably fundamentally flawed and should not be pursued further” he stated. “Dear EVP, step back immediately”.
