AfD Orders Rhineland‑Palatinate MPs to Open Village Pubs, Promises Local Project Funding

According to a media report, the AfD in Rhineland‑Palatinate is directing its parliamentary members to establish local meeting points in every electoral district. The party’s state conference has mandated that lawmakers open a public venue for constituents-ideally a pub-or, alternatively, contribute a modest three‑digit monthly sum into a communal pot. Funds collected in this pot are intended to support on‑site projects in the area.

Sebastian Münzenmaier, deputy chair of the AfD’s Bundestag faction, explained that the party’s goal is “politics from the village for the village”. By creating these local hubs, the AfD hopes to strengthen its presence in rural communities and attract new voters.

The plan has drawn criticism from the SPD. Dirk Wiese, parliamentary manager of the SPD’s Bundestag faction, told the “Bild” that “pub discussions” have long been a routine part of German politics. He called the AfD’s approach a simple copy‑and‑paste strategy. Wiese also pointed out that in AfD‑dominated areas the beer is often lukewarm, many people gather in the cellar for a laugh, and a significant number of residents remain at home, unable to break away from screens that are flooded with hateful comments.
