Facing sharply rising fuel prices, Green Party politician Ricarda Lang is calling for a right to work from home to ease employees’ burdens. “Every drop of fuel saved is good for the citizens’ wallets at the moment” she told the Funke Media Group’s weekend newspapers.
“Employees now need a right to mobile work and home office wherever the job allows and there are no operational objections” Lang said. With fuel and train ticket costs climbing, working from home can concretely relieve many workers.
But she noted that remote work simply isn’t an option for many professions. “Those who must commute every day should not be left alone with the additional strain” Lang added. “Therefore targeted relief is needed, financed through a wind‑fall tax. Those making extraordinary gains in the crisis should also contribute to help mitigate its effects”.
