Having defeated Karlsruher SC 1-0 in the closing matchday of the 2. Bundesliga, FC Schalke 04 successfully defended their top spot in the league table. The decisive goal arrived in the 72nd minute when Kenan Karaman headed a cross from the left side, assisted by Ndiaye, into the far corner. Although Schalke dominated the play in the first half, they were unsuccessful in converting their opportunities into goals. The visiting Karlsruher SC struggled to generate meaningful attacking threats throughout the match; their best chance was thwarted by Schalke’s goalkeeper, Karius, just before halftime. In the second half, Schalke increased the pressure, finally capitalizing on their efforts with the leading goal. Despite several attempts, the KSC could not break through the well-organized Schalke defense. This victory secured three vital points for the ‘Königsblauen’ in their promotion push. Following this win, Schalke maintains a one-point lead over second-placed Paderborn, while Karlsruher slips to ninth place. Schalke’s next game is scheduled for this coming Sunday against Elversberg, while the KSC is due to play Bielefeld on Friday.
