Max Verstappen secured victory in the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint race, an event that was significantly delayed due to rainy conditions. The Dutch driver successfully navigated a turbulent sprint race on Saturday, overcoming challenges posed by both Ferrari drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
Verstappen benefited from a crash involving the McLaren drivers, which relegated Lando Norris to eighth place and forced Oscar Piastri out of the competition. Meanwhile, Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli advanced to fourth place, helping him increase his World Championship lead to 89 points.
The race began under difficult circumstances, as a heavy downpour postponed the start. After two introductory laps following the safety car procedure, the race finally commenced. Mercedes driver George Russell initially took the lead, but he lost control and crashed on the second lap, allowing Verstappen to take control of the race without contest.
The safety car had to be deployed again to ensure the safety of the track. Throughout the remainder of the race, several vehicles withdrew. Drivers Sergio Perez of Cadillac, Lance Stroll of Aston Martin, and Isack Hadjar of Red Bull were forced to stop their cars. Additionally, Alexander Albon of Williams and Gabriel Bortoleto of Audi also retired following collisions. The constantly changing weather contributed to further difficulties; the track partially dried but was not yet dry enough for cars running slicks.
While Hamilton set the fastest lap time at 1:45.626, he could not close the gap on Verstappen. Nico Hülkenberg and Lando Norris managed to collect the remaining points, leaving the McLaren drivers disappointed after their earlier accident.
