SPD’s Möller Calls for Increased Ukraine Support Amid Shift in Security Focus

Sientje Möller, the deputy group vice-chair for the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, called for increased support for Ukraine while simultaneously dispelling a new debate concerning Taurus missile deliveries. Speaking to the news portal Politico, Möller stated that “everything has been said regarding Taurus”.

Speaking about the Ukraine contact group, she emphasized the urgent need for action, noting, “Overall, more support is needed”. However, Möller also warned that the conflict in Ukraine risks being overshadowed by escalating events in the Middle East. She pointed out that conversations have focused “almost exclusively” on the war against Iran, creating a danger that “focus will be lost on this war”.

Furthermore, Möller mentioned the changing role of the United States, observing that the U.S. has “completely withdrawn from support” with military aid increasingly being organized through European funding. Despite this, she expressed hope that “military support [….] remains available”.
