Trump Maintains US Naval Blockade in Strait of Hormuz Despite Iran’s Temporary Assurance

After Iran announced the temporary lifting of its blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump stated that the US blockading of Iranian ships will remain in place. Trump wrote in all capital letters on his personal platform on Friday that, “The Strait of Hormuz is fully open and ready for trade and unimpeded passage, but the naval blockade remains fully in force as it relates exclusively to Iran until our transaction with Iran is 100% complete”. Previously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had announced on the platform X that passage through the Strait of Hormuz is fully cleared for all commercial vessels for the remainder of the ten-day ceasefire in Lebanon. In early April, Araghchi had stated that the end of Israeli attacks on Lebanon was a prerequisite for a ceasefire with the United States. At that time, the Iranian Foreign Minister wrote on the platform X, referencing a tweet from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on April 8th that announced a truce between Iran and the USA, that, “The conditions for a ceasefire between Iran and the USA are clear and unmistakable: The US must decide-either a ceasefire or the continuation of war over Israel. Both are not possible”. He added, “The world sees the massacres in Lebanon. Now the US is at a crossroads, and the world watches to see if they will comply with their commitments”.
