AfD Dismisses Aigner for Presidency, Citing Partisan Politics and Lack of National Objectivity

In the ongoing discussion surrounding a potential candidacy for the office of Federal President by Ilse Aigner, the President of the Bavarian State Parliament and a member of the CSU party, the AfD has voiced its opposition. Speaking to the “Bild” (Saturday edition), AfD leader Alice Weidel argued that the Federal President must be a figure respected across all parties and factions, rather than a partisan politician who risks misusing the highest state office to continue practicing political maneuvering.

Weidel criticized Aigner’s current conduct, stating that Aigner had “more than once demonstrated in her capacity as President of the Bavarian State Parliament that she cannot set aside her role as a partisan politician, and that the interests of the ruling CSU are more important to her than the rights of the opposition”. Based on this perceived failure, the AfD concluded that Ilse Aigner is not electable as Federal President.
