Parliamentary Tourism Leader Suggests Caution for International Travel Amid Global Instability

Chairman Anja Karliczek of the Bundestag Tourism Committee (CDU) warned about potential risks associated with long-distance travel due to the ongoing energy crisis. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” she confirmed that in Germany, the supply of kerosene for already booked flights is secure. However, she noted that the situation differs significantly in other parts of the world, pointing out that there currently exists a risk for holidaymakers both when trying to reach their destinations and when returning home.

Karliczek added that it is unknown how the situation regarding travel to Asia or the Middle East will develop, advising that every traveler should monitor this specific situation themselves. Despite the global uncertainty, she suggested that Germany could benefit from the current trends, adding that the country can still offer safe travel options-a significant advantage for the German tourism sector in an unstable world.

When asked whether holidaymakers might prefer to stay in Germany rather than flying to popular destinations like Mallorca, Karliczek disagreed. She explained that countries such as Spain and Portugal, for example, are currently benefiting from increased demand as travelers redirect their long-haul flights toward European spots.
