Germany Plans Massive Tech Overhaul for Security Forces to Combat Crime and Terrorism

The German government intends to pass a comprehensive reform package this Wednesday, significantly upgrading the technological capabilities of national security agencies. The central focus of these reforms is the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to combat organized crime and terrorism more effectively.

According to reports from “Bild” the Federal Cabinet plans to grant the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the Federal Police additional digital tools. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) stated that the police force will become faster, sharper, and more structured in its response to threats. He added that this legislative package will allow investigators to better prevent dangers, more effectively halt terrorists, and apprehend severe criminals.

The new software will enable investigators to analyze vast amounts of data in record time. This capability aims to make complex structures of criminal gangs and hidden terror networks visible much faster than traditional methods allow. Furthermore, law enforcement officers will be permitted to search the public internet for wanted individuals using image comparison technology. This facial recognition process is designed to help locate terrorists or major criminals who are believed to be hiding out.
