Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) has voiced support for considering CSU politician Ilse Aigner as a candidate for the next Federal President. Speaking to “Spiegel” Dobrindt stated that this is “a consideration that can be continued” adding, “This is a model and a variation. I can imagine it”.
Eleventh-hour suggestions for the presidency were previously put forward by CSU leader Markus Söder, who brought his party friend Aigner into the running.
The election of the successor to Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to take place next spring by the Federal Assembly.
