Despite varying positions within the CDU/CSU-led federal government, North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister-President, Hendrik Wüst (CDU), predicts that the coalition will continue. Speaking on Monday to RTL and ntv, he asserted that there is no viable alternative to the current administration within the democratic spectrum of the German Bundestag, arguing that everyone must “pull together”.
Wüst also addressed predictions from his party colleague, Christian von Stetten, who suggested the government would “certainly” not last four years. Wüst disagreed with this “gloomy forecast” stating that all involved parties are aware of their respective responsibilities. He affirmed that while the parties are different, he remains confident in the longevity of the union.
Looking ahead to the government’s work, Wüst highlighted progress in several areas. He mentioned that significant work has been completed regarding energy policy and noted that migration is rarely a topic of public debate now. With further projects underway, Wüst concluded by stating that he believes momentum and progress will improve the overall political mood.
