Philipp Amthor of the CDU expressed satisfaction with the outcome after a year in his role as Parliamentary State Secretary. He stated that the establishment of a new federal ministry for digitalization and state modernization is very positive, arguing that it has finally elevated these crucial topics to the highest level of priority on the cabinet agenda. Speaking on RTL and ntv’s show “Frühstart” on Tuesday, Amthor praised the significant dynamism in implementing changes, noting that the work began immediately. He contrasted this rapid progress with other political groups, implying that they would have wasted valuable time on peripheral details, such as decorating or managing the staff canteen, even after establishing new ministries.
The CDU politician also addressed the long-standing issue of bureaucratic reduction, which he characterized as having been relegated merely to political rhetoric in years past. According to Amthor, political promises tended to be grand declarations, which were then followed by actions that contradicted them. He highlighted that his ministry changed this approach, recognizing that tackling bureaucratic inertia was not a matter of academic understanding, but a practical problem of implementation. He concluded by emphasizing their commitment to systematically addressing the accumulated obstacles, stating that they are working “to chip away at this mountain of concrete that has been built up over years and decades, piece by piece”.
