According to the latest RTL/ntv “Trendbarometer” the AfD maintains its clear lead in favorability among voters, scoring 27 percent. This figure secures a five-percentage-point advantage over the CDU/CSU bloc, which remains at 22 percent. The Greens increased their support by one percentage point, reaching 16 percent-marking their best result since early May 2023. Conversely, The Left lost a point, dropping to 11 percent. The polling rates for all other established parties remained unchanged from the previous week: the SPD holds steady at 12 percent; the FDP is at 4 percent; and smaller parties, including the BSW, combined account for 8 percent.
Regarding perceived political competence, the AfD remains in the lead, scoring 14 percent without change. The CDU/CSU saw a decline of one point, falling to 12 percent. The Greens are still seen by the highest percentage of voters-8 percent-as the party most capable of solving the country’s problems. The SPD and The Left each retain the support of 5 percent. However, the poll revealed that a majority of 54 percent of voters do not feel that any single party is best positioned to solve the nation’s problems.
The level of dissatisfaction with Chancellor Friedrich Merz continues to climb, reaching a new peak. An overwhelming 85 percent-a two-percentage-point increase-of German citizens are currently dissatisfied with his work. Only 13 percent report being satisfied, marking a two-percentage-point decrease. Criticism is also evident among CDU/CSU supporters, where 53 percent stated they are unhappy with Merz.
The poll sampled 2,002 individuals between April 28 and May 4, 2026.
