VfL Bochum has secured its status in the 2. Bundesliga for another season. After drawing 1:1 away against Hannover 96 on Matchday 33, the club confirmed that remaining in the league was no longer in doubt. The result places them in tenth position with a seven-point cushion from the relegation battle.
Meanwhile, SV Elversberg missed a major opportunity to challenge for promotion. Had Hannover-who are currently sitting in third place-lost in Bochum, Elversberg could have secured a clear path to a direct promotion spot with a win in Düsseldorf on Sunday. That possibility has now slipped away.
A significant leap toward league safety, however, was achieved by 1. FC Magdeburg. The club won away against Holstein Kiel with a score of 3:1 on Saturday afternoon, moving them up to twelfth place. If Fortuna Düsseldorf and Fürth fail to win their matches on Sunday, Magdeburg’s tenure in the second division is officially secured.
In contrast, Dynamo Dresden must continue to watch their ranking closely. The team had a chance to save themselves with at least a draw in Braunschweig, but instead, the hosts managed a 2:1 victory. Dresden consequently drops to thirteenth place, forcing Braunschweig into fourteenth place directly behind them.
