Olise’s Goal Secures Tight Bayern Victory and Keeps Bundesliga Title Race Alive

Bayern Munich secured a 1-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg in their penultimate Bundesliga matchday. The result came as a narrow upset, especially given the stakes: while Wolfsburg desperately needed points to secure their stay in the First Division, Bayern was looking to settle after their early exit from the Champions League.

The match started with promising chances for Wolfsburg against the already crowned champions, but they struggled to convert their opportunities. Wolfsburg’s goalkeeper, Kamil Grabara, was particularly outstanding in the first half, making several crucial parries to keep his team in the game. Earlier, Bayern missed a clear chance when Harry Kane tripped and shot the penalty wide of the goal.

The breakthrough finally came in the 56th minute, when Michael Olise scored the decisive goal. Olise received a pass from Laimer and beat Maehle with a double step-over before curling the ball irresistibley into the far corner just below the crossbar. Tactically, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany brought on fresh legs, including Konrad Laimer and Dayot Upamecano, hoping to gain more composure in the unexpectedly open game. Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking also made substitutions to vitalize his offense, but Bayern’s defense remained rock solid.

For Wolfsburg, the narrow defeat eliminates any realistic chance of securing a safe position in the league-both Köln and Werder Bremen’s spots have now been officially secured. Attention now shifts to the final matchday against St. Pauli, which has become a true relegation showdown for 16th place. Wolfsburg currently sits in that exact spot, with St. Pauli just behind them on 17th place and level on points. However, there remains a theoretical possibility for Bayern to capture the relegation spot from the last-placed Heidenheim, should the F.C.H. ( Köln) secure a victory against them on Sunday.
