Rheinmetall and Deutsche Telekom announced a collaboration to develop a sophisticated protective shield against drone attacks and sabotage. The joint effort aims to safeguard critical infrastructure and cities throughout Germany.
The companies stated that amid the current geopolitical landscape, the protection of crucial infrastructure has become a central focus, primarily due to the continuous rise in hybrid threats, including acts of sabotage and drone deployments. To counter this, they plan to combine their respective competencies to develop a comprehensive “Multi-Threat-Protection-Approach” one that covers both physical security and cybersecurity.
Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall, noted that the challenge posed by drones is highly digital. Consequently, he emphasized that the defense mechanism requires a technological convergence involving sensing systems, effective countermeasures, and reliable, secure communication networks-an integration that the two companies are uniquely positioned to deliver.
Echoing this, Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, explained that the telecom group will utilize its expertise in connectivity, cloud services, and advanced data analysis to elevate the nation’s drone defense capabilities to an entirely new level.
