Klaus Holetschek, chair of the CSU Parliamentary Group in the Bavarian State Parliament, has expressed openness to blanket cuts to subsidies. Speaking on the podcast “Berlin Playbook” he noted that tackling subsidies in a generalized manner is an idea worth considering. Simultaneously, Holetschek reinforced the necessity of major reforms within the governing coalition. He stated that significant social reform is inevitable, requiring all parties to contribute to the effort. Despite the strained budgetary situation, Holetschek explicitly defended the “Mütterrente” (maternity benefit), arguing that it reflects a form of respect for mothers’ contributions. While he declined to discuss specific cuts, he suggested that the next steps involve waiting for the presented tax reform concept.
