SPD Chairman Lars Klingbeil has demanded that his party commit to taking responsibility ahead of the upcoming party congress in January. “I want the SPD to always project this image: We want responsibility,” he told the “Bild am Sonntag”.
The Social Democrat leader warned his colleagues that the party must cease internal preoccupation and instead focus on the critical problems facing Germany. According to Klingbeil, given the current climate-where crises and wars are massively influencing daily life, and the nation needs to resume growth and investment-the SPD does not have the luxury of focusing only on itself.
Klingbeil, who currently holds the roles of Deputy Chancellor and Finance Minister in the federal government, has not yet signaled whether he will seek the party chairmanship again. The SPD politician emphasized, “It is all about decisions for the country,” stating that making those decisions requires the best possible leadership.
