The CDU Economic Council has called upon the Federal Minister for Education and Research, Dorothee Bär (CSU), advocating for enhanced European coordination regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, General Secretary of the Economic Council Wolfgang Steiger stated that a closer harmonization of national strategies is essential, arguing that this coordination must align with the European Commission’s “Apply-AI Strategy”. This commission strategy aims to accelerate the utilization of AI across key sectors and within the public infrastructure.
Steiger emphasized that developing a robust and powerful digital internal market-one that can strengthen Europe as a self-sufficient technology and innovation hub-requires joint innovation ecosystems, pooled resources, and the elimination of duplicated regulatory structures. He stressed that AI should not be understood merely as an academic research topic, but rather recognized as a “central lever for economic transformation”.
Adding to this dialogue, the Federal Ministry for Education and Research is scheduled to address the Committee. Later today, Minister Bär will host a press conference to present the various roadmaps concerning the high-tech agenda.
