During a criminal hearing at the District Court in Hanau, an accused man suddenly attacked a public prosecutor. According to the court’s statement on Thursday, the incident occurred while a large criminal chamber was delivering its verdict. The accused, who was handcuffed, reportedly jumped over his table, charged toward the prosecutor, and struck her on the head. Four court guards immediately responded to the attack. One of the guards stopped the confrontation by taking the accused man into a “Schwitzkasten” (a physical restraint/holding) and pulling him away from the prosecutor. The accused was subsequently taken to the holding cell.
The prosecutor sustained a severe head bruise, a cervical spine distortion, abrasions on both hands, and bruises on her forearm and wrist, requiring immediate medical attention. Two of the guards also suffered minor injuries. Approximately an hour after the attack, the judgment could be concluded under police presence. The proceedings concluded with a guilty verdict for dangerous and multiple simple bodily injuries, resulting in a prison sentence and an order for preventative detention.
