The German federal cabinet plans to approve an amendment to building regulations this Wednesday, transforming music clubs into officially recognized cultural venues. This change is intended to simplify the operation of clubs and discos, even in residential areas of both cities and villages. Previously, obtaining permits was difficult mainly because music clubs were typically classified strictly as entertainment establishments.
Cultural State Minister Wolfram Weimer (non-partisan) stated to the magazine that he was instrumental in ensuring this coalition agreement objective would be met. He explained that this measure clearly separates music clubs from purely recreational businesses. Furthermore, music clubs will now be explicitly permitted in various types of development zones, such as core, urban, and commercial areas. This modification is viewed as a significant step toward supporting and expanding the live music scene across Germany.
