Housing Minister Verena Hubertz (SPD) announced that the housing construction company, which she and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) plan to establish, will begin operations next year. Hubertz informed the news portal T-Online that the goal is for the association to become active in 2027. She and Klingbeil intend to present the concept this autumn, aiming to start quickly thereafter.
Hubertz emphasized that this new entity must be a lean structure, not a large government authority, stating that the country already has enough bureaucracy. Furthermore, she clarified that they are not looking to establish a new construction firm themselves; instead, they plan to collaborate with market partners to ensure that factories are fully utilized through their specific orders.
The federal government’s major role will be issuing substantial orders, which will allow the state to secure pricing advantages. Additionally, the government will lend the AAA rating to the company, allowing it to secure top-tier financing conditions. The plan is for the federal government to hold 51 percent of the shares, with the remaining 49 percent going to external partners. These partners may include companies from the free economy, as well as existing municipal or state-owned housing associations.
