Full-Time Workers Log Fewer Hours While Part-Timers Increase Hours in Germany

According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), working hours in Germany have recently decreased for full-time employees compared to the levels recorded a decade ago. In 2025, full-time dependent workers averaged 39.9 hours per week, falling from 40.5 hours per week in 2015. However, the weekly working hours for full-time employees remained unchanged compared to 2024.

In contrast, the hours worked by part-time employees have increased. Last year, part-time workers clocked an average of 21.3 hours per week, which is 2.0 hours more than the 19.3 hours they worked in 2015. Compared to 2024, the weekly hours for part-time employees saw only a slight rise of 0.1 hours.

Overall, all dependent employees worked an average of 34.0 hours per week in 2025. This marks a reduction of 0.4 hours over the past ten years, matching the average hours recorded in 2024.
