CSU leader Markus Söder and CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann are expected to participate in an upcoming event organized by the SPD faction’s “Seeheimer Kreis”. Esra Limbacher, the spokesperson for the Seeheimer Kreis, confirmed to Spiegel that she is pleased that both Söder and Linnemann will be guests at the annual “Spargelfahrt”. Earlier reports from the Rheinische Post had already covered the participation of the Bavarian Minister-President.
Limbacher stressed that achieving unity within the coalition is currently necessary to implement the required reforms, stating that the time for dispute and insults must end.
During the event, both Söder and Linnemann are scheduled to give speeches, alongside SPD Chief Lars Klingbeil. Linnemann informed Spiegel that, “In these difficult times, it is important that we set common signs within the coalition”. He added, “I am happy to attend the Spargelfahrt and look forward to the date. Hopefully, the weather cooperates”.
According to the Seeheimer Kreis, more than 50 of the 120 SPD Members of the Bundestag belong to the conservative wing. The “Spargelfahrt” which has been a tradition since 1961, is expected to host nearly 500 guests next Tuesday evening. Friedrich Merz of the CDU was also invited, but he declined due to prior commitments.
