FDP Founder Vows to Reshape Saxony-Anhalt, Setting High Stakes for Party Survival

Wolfgang Kubicki, chairman of the FDP, has publicly declared his ambition to secure more than five percent of the votes in the state elections for Saxony-Anhalt this September. Speaking to the “Tagesspiegel” (Saturday edition), Kubicki asserted that he is documenting his aim that they can still turn the tide in Saxony-Anhalt, even though current polls show his party polling below three percent.

To achieve this goal, the FDP politician called upon his party members for unity and determination. According to Kubicki, having made a critical decision, everyone must now fight together because “the opponent is outside, not inside.” For his declared objective of keeping the FDP stable above five percent, he has set a deadline-one that he links directly to the political survival of their party. If they fail within one year to become an important political force once again through collective effort, Kubicki stated they could “close up shop.” His message is stark: “We face either success or insignificance.”

Kubicki also emphasized his personal strategy, stating he intends to remain confrontational. He made it clear that being liked by any major political group-whether the Union, the Left Party, the Greens, or the SPD-is not his goal. Instead, Kubicki insists that the FDP must regain respect, and if necessary, a degree of fear.
