Canada successfully secured at least one point for their home crowd in Toronto on Friday, managing to draw 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the opening match of Group B of the World Cup, despite falling behind early. The Bosnians were more effective in the first half, taking the lead in the 21st minute. After a corner kick, Sead Kolasinac put the ball in the air, creating an opportunity for Jovo Lukic (21.) to tap the ball into the net from close range.
Subsequently, Canada began to take control of the game and created several promising chances. However, the Bosnian defenders, Sead Kolasinac and Nihad Katic, made crucial saves to prevent the scoreboard from changing. Tani Oluwaseyi and Stephen Eustaquio both had opportunities to score but were unable to beat Bosnian goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj.
In the final stages, the pressure from the hosts finally paid off. Cyle Larin (79.), who had been substituted onto the field earlier, received a pass from Promise David inside the penalty area and struck a precise shot to level the score at 1-1, securing a much-deserved point.
