A police officer was wounded by gunfire during a major police operation in Göttingen on Saturday evening. According to the Göttingen police inspection, the incident took place in the area surrounding Weender Landstraße and Weender Tor.
The events began around 8:40 PM with a confrontation between two groups of people. Subsequently, at about 10:15 PM, shots were fired. One police officer was struck and received immediate medical treatment. The police did not initially disclose the nature or severity of the injuries.
One person suspected of involvement managed to flee the scene of the incident. The police have since launched extensive manhunt operations, which are being supported by a police helicopter. The vicinity of the Weender Tor was cordoned off over a wide area. Authorities reported that there was no danger to the public.
