Banaszak Slams Interior Ministers’ Conference Over Failure to Prioritize Right-Wing Extremism

Felix Banaszak, the leader of the Green party, has demanded that the upcoming Internal Ministers Conference (IMK) in Hamburg take a firm and decisive stand against right-wing extremist and right-terrorist groups. Speaking to the news portal T-Online, Banaszak criticized the current situation, calling it a failure of security policy that right-extremism did not secure a prominent position among the dozens of agenda items. He noted that the level of politically motivated violence is currently at a peak, insisting that this issue should dominate the session.

Banaszak appealed directly to the interior ministers, urging them to tackle the subject matter. He emphasized the need for a coordinated and determined strategy, arguing that immediate measures must be taken to ensure security authorities are robust and resilient against threats to the foundational principles of the democratic constitutional order.

The ministers are scheduled to meet in Hamburg from Wednesday to Friday. While the conference covers a wide range of topics-including combating left-extremism, improving civil protection, and protecting critical infrastructure like the power grid and football stadiums-Banaszak stressed that the fight against far-right threats must be a priority.
